Air Max 1 - VIJZ Béspokes

Materials Breakdown:
Alright, let's dive right in. First up, that mudguard? It's crafted from an Aimé Leon Dore blanket – a unique touch if you ask me. The main body? A mix of nubuck in different shades. Throw in a mint canvas quarter, and things start to get interesting. And the swoosh? Made from patent leather, it’s got foam inside which brings us to our next point...

Cool Details:
The foam-filled swoosh? Gives it a 3D bubble effect – pretty neat! That Aimé Leon Dore fabric is backed onto some bright orange suede, giving the shoe a sneaky pop of orange. And if you look closely, the label on the tongue is made from that same ALD fabric, complete with a little floral logo nodding to ALD. Round the back, you'll spot two embroideries: “Air Max” and “VIJZ Bespokes”. As for the shoe's base? It's a crepe sole, matching brilliantly with the color of the air bubble.

From Sketch to Reality:
Here's the thing with designing – you start with a sketch, but as you get hands-on, things change. Maybe you spot a way to add a cool detail or realize the materials need a tweak. But one thing’s consistent: the finished shoe almost always outshines the initial drawing.

Making Process:
Curious about the making process? I've got some behind-the-scenes shots in the gallery below. Crafting these wasn't a walk in the park. The patent swoosh and the ALD fabric? Major challenges. The swoosh's slick material combined with the foam underneath meant it tended to bulge. The fix? Using a small screwdriver to press the fabric behind the needle because the regular wheel wouldn’t sit right. The ALD fabric? Tricky because it's delicate. But after some careful stitching, it's secured to last through regular wear.

We have now created an experience page for the first time. Here, I share the story behind the shoe design and the shoes came alive.

Till next time, Vince
